DAYGLO ABORTIONS

Legende Punka, ki že 25 let ružijo, so začeli kot 3-članski bend v Vicorii, British Columbia.
Šele leta 1981 uspelo izdati prvi LP z naslovom Out of the Womb.

Naslednji album Feed Us A Fetus glasbeni kritiki uvrstijo med 20 najpomembnejših albumov kanadskega rocka vseh časov. S komadi kot 'Argh Fuck Kill', 'Stupid World' and 'Proud to be a Canadian' si prislužijo kultni status med punk poslušalstvom.

Postava se je z leti menjavala, zadnjih nekaj let nastopajo ko 5-članska zasedba.
Pri postavah je zanimivo to, da so v tem bendu igrali ljudje, kot so WAYNE GRETZKY, slavni igralec hokeja ter MIKE CRETIN.

Tretji album Here Today, Guano Tomorrow prinaša malo crossover vplivov. Zaradi naslovnice je bend doletel največji sodni proces in še večji škandal v zgodovini Kanade.
Pisalo se je leto 1988, ko je policistova mladoletna hči poslušala album Here Today Guano Tomorrow. Njen oče - policaj je pozorneje prebral besedila in skupaj z lokalnim župnikom vložil ovadbo. Tožilec je tožil bend po starem zakomu o nemorali iz leta 1959. Preiskava članov benda in založbe Fringe je trajala polnih 6 mesecev. Preiskovalci so zaplenili vse plošče in dokumentacijo. Proces se je vlekel dolgi dve leti in je stal 96 000 $ na koncu pa je vrhovno kanadsko sodišče zavrglo vse obtožbe. Mediji so napihnili afero in izbruhnil je škandal saj so vsi svobodomiselni novinarji in kolumnisti protestirali proti cenzuri in omejevanju umetniške svobode. Cerkev in policija sta bili osramočeni, Dayglo Abortions pa je publiciteta prinesla moralno zmago in reklamo.

Na albumu Two Dogs Fucking so Dayglo Abrotions izlili svoj srd in mišljenje o sodobni kanadski umetniški svobodi ter sodnemu procesu zaradi naslovnice prejšnjega albuma. S komadi, kot so 'Spoken Word', 'Punker Bitches', Shit Happens', 'Cretins rebuttal', 'Isn't It Disgusting' so še enkrat dosegli moralno zmago. To je bila poslednja izdaja za Fringe records. Od tega albuma dalje so izdajali stvari pri svoji založbi GOD RECORDS.

Albumu Two Dogs Fucking je sledil Little Man in The Canoe, ko se bend vrne v stare punk korenine ter prinese obilo nove energije. Komada 'Homophobic Sexist Cokeheads' in Big Michel' absolutno izstopata.

Takoj naslednje leto so izdali še en album z naslovom Corporate Whores. Ta album vsebuje škandalozno naslovnico z Bilom Gatesom in cipami, ki jim je prinesel še večjo slavo.

Zadnji album, ki so ga objavili nosi naslov Death Race 2000. Prinaša klasičen punkerski pridih, malo so izgubili na hitrosti, vendar ne na sporočilu tekstov z naslovi, kot so ‘Mother was a man’, 'Drink beer smoke pot play musić, 'After All these Beers', Big Ass Truck', itn.


Še zanimivosti:

Dayglo Abortions so znani po tem,da je v začetku osemdesetih pri njih igral kitaro zvezdnik NHL lige Wayne Gretzky, pevec Jimbo pa je imel ljubezensko razmerje s slavno porno zvezdo Traci Lords, da bo mera polna ima bend že 15 let prepoved vstopa na ozemlje ZDA ker jim grozi takojšna aretacija bojda zaradi seksistične nemorale z orgijami in kajenja marihuane na koncertih. Bes Jenkijev pa Dayglo Abortions dodatno podžigajo z norčevanjem iz nacionalnih simbolov in sramotenjem vladne politike Združenih Držav Amerike.
