01 - Monopoly on International Pity
Here I set the stage for exploring around trash at refugee camps. What kinds of things would you find? Who truly cleans up after refugee camps dismantle? A variety of rumbles, yelps, bangs, clangs and struggle.
02 - Champions Of Atrocity
Those in charge of these shitholes really do a lot of talking. Usually trying to make themselves look better by saying "Oh it's not really THAT bad" or even "I didn't know about it so it's not my fault" or "The western media is lying". Those who are stuck actually living through some real heavy shit are stuck not being able to say much as no one really seems to be paying attention.
05 - The Real Digital Divide
The title comes from a coverstory from the UK heavy intellectual mag The Economist, and featured one of my all-time favourite photos on the cover of a boy in very rural Africa holding a fake clay cellphone. A good example of how the world is completely uneven. The poor and desperate know what their missing. Isolation is rare when your running across borders to escape something. Or even if you live side-by-side in abject poverty next to "development". What does it mean when cellphones and posh cars exist next to cardboard shacks?
09 - Holidays in St.Tropez (Dream Sequence: Kibeho)
Kibeho was a particularly cursed displacement camp in Rwanda, set up during the 1994 genocide there (a favourite research item of mine, I'm not sure why.. I think because it's like reality turned completely upside down). This track actually illustrates an imaginary situation of a young adult who's been displaced during the genocide. He or she has heard of this placed called St. Tropez, full of rich white people with not a problem in sight. The track starts with the sound of muffled misery, either a gun battle or machete blitz going on right in front of this young person forcing them to run like hell to wherever there's peace & quiet. Eventually the young person finds some place to rest and dreams of swirling music and dancing and being completely comfortable. Unfortunately the young person is woken up mid-dream to some wretched reality that forces them to move again. And then again finds the ability to sleep, then awakes to shitty reality once more. Up, down, up, down.. throwing life into zig-zagging anarchy.
